TONIC

    Meaning from Reading: I think that tonic is another word for potion or medicine.

4.  My Definition after looking up TONIC in the Dictionary:  medicine that awakens

5. TONIC adds meaning to this passage because it is vital to the plot of the story. It is tonic that is bought by Jo, and others, in an attempt to grow taller. It is the tonic that this entire story, including the events that the characters face, centers upon.

DIVERSITY

1. Diversity – pg. 6 par. 4

2. "We're studying the diversity of life in biology."

3. Part of Speech: Noun

    Meaning from Reading: I think that diversity means differences in the environment.

4. My Definition after looking up DIVERSITY in the Dictionary:  being an individual

5. Diversity adds meaning to this passage because it tells the reader why Megan is looking through the tabloids in order to find things and people that are different in our world.  It puts meaning behind what the reader has read.

TABLOID

1. Tabloid – pg. 6 par. 7

2. "That tabloid lies, exploits innocent people, and fakes all of its photos!" Keisha said.

3. Part of Speech: Noun

Meaning from Reading:  I think that a tabloid is a type of newspaper that does not portray accurate information.

4. My Definition after looking up TABLOID in the Dictionary: sensationalized newspaper

5. The word "tabloid" adds meaning to this section because it helps show the type of person that Megan is within the story.  Since Megan reads the tabloids the reader comes to the conclusion that she is a person that likes to think about the impossible.  She perhaps is a person that enjoys using her imagination to wonder about the unknown.

SHRINE

1. Shrine – pg. 26 par. 4

2. "It's like a basketball shrine in here."

3. Part of Speech: noun

    Meaning from Reading:  sacred

4. My Definition after looking up SHRINE in the Dictionary: a place that is sacred and may have artifacts from a specific sacred event

5. The word "shrine" adds meaning to this passage because it adds meaning to the setting that the Super Crew is currently surrounded by.  One can visually see the living room as being a basketball shrine dedicated to the family's love of the game.

AMENITY

1. Amenity – pg. 31 par. 3

2. "Curtis is Mr. Modern Amenity."

3. Part of Speech: adjective, but after looking it up found it to be a noun
